Facilities
At the inception, the initial proposals identified two pieces of equipment as core facilities for the programme, namely; (i) an accelerator and (2) a research and training reactor for peaceful application of nuclear techniques to national development. Although the initial grant was utilised to procure a 9MeV Tandem Accelerator, a smaller one, 1.7MeV Pelletron Tandem Accelerator has been procured and will be installed and commissioned by the first quarter of 2008. Nevertheless, there are plans to later purchase a Nuclear Reactor. Apart from these core facilities, there are hosts of other equipments needed for precise analyses in fields such as Health, Agriculture, Solid Minerals, Environmental Control, Petrochemical and Pharmaceutical Industries that are available at CERD. These equipment are the subject of the next sections.
